If you don't know this already, I have the world's steepest driveway. We got 6 inches of snow in the past 2 days and oh the adventures I've had.
Yesterday went swimmingly. Plowed the driveway with almost no problems. The switch on the 4 wheeler that runs the up and down motion of the plow has a poor connection so every 10 minutes or so I'd have to reconnect the wires and tape them together again. It was annoying, but was no big deal.
Today, however, was a much different story. So, I'm plowing the driveway with the 4 wheeler. About 1/5 of the way in, I run out of gas. So I run in and grab the kids who are sitting inside watching a movie - barefoot and all. I figure I'm only going 4 blocks, it'll be fine. They won't be getting out anyway. We pile into my 2WD car and head down my steep unplowed driveway to the gas station. Don't know if you've experienced this but I hadn't touched the gas pedal yet and I was accelerating steadily down. We made it to the road at a solid 15 miles per hour and off we went. Whew! Didn't even hit the mailbox. Always a plus. I fill two 5 gallon cans gas and set them carefully in the trunk so they don't tip or splash. When we get home, of course, I can't get my car up the driveway - cuz it's not plowed! But I can't plow cuz I need gas! Ironic.
So I have to carry my shoeless, coatless kids up the super slick driveway one by one which is quite a hike! And thanks to my great idea to not put shoes on them, I got to do it 3 times. Twice with kids and once to get the 4 wheeler - luckily we made it safely, just a little sweat going on. I fill the 4 wheeler with gas and put the gas cans back in my car which is still parked on the road in front of my house. I plow the rest of the driveway, again getting off every few minutes to reconnect wires. When I 'm done, there's still some residual snow, so I go to spread ice melt but it's so slick I just fall on my butt and sled down a few feet. I scatter the salt from where I sat and tried to stand up and slipped again! No go on ice melt!
I decide to attempt to get my car up now that it's plowed. I make it 3/4 up and I hear a gas can tip over in the trunk! I know it's spilling in the trunk but if I stop, I probably won't make it up again, so I just let it spill for another 10 seconds while I spin my wheels like crazy. Finally, I made it up and Jumped out to stop the gas. It didn't spill too much so I wiped it up as best as I could. Now my car reeks, my garage smells of burned rubber and I my butt hurts. I love you driveway!
